Hair Shade: A mix of white and grey, used to be light brown
Hair Style: He is balding and only a little hair remains towards the back of his head. Ernest’s’ hair has been the cause of ridicule from students for many years and is a somewhat sensitive subject for him.
Eye Color: Brown
Build: Ernest is short, standing at 5’1” and portly.
Dressing Style: Ernest has an ordinary dressing style, opting for the traditional muggle choice of a shirt and pants when teaching. He doesn’t own very much clothing and doesn’t see the point of buying more to be ruined by vicious plants and the like. His favourite colours to wear include browns, greys and blacks. He is renowned for his dark beige trench coat and a grey bowler hat – being seen in it almost everyday. His outfits aren’t co-ordinated in the slightest and Ernest can look quite silly at times. It’s fortunate that he doesn’t care about his appearance.

Overall Personality: Whilst being a professional in the workplace, Ernest is incredibly nosy and simply wishes to know everything. He cannot let things go and has an incredible memory. Ernest is constantly questioning his fellow professors and the students about the latest gossip at Hogwarts and sometimes uses detentions as an excuse for a catch-up with students. However he can certainly be strict when he wishes to be, particularly with Slytherin students. He has never forgotten being bullied by his brother, also a Slytherin, and continues holding his grudge against the house to this day. His judgements towards them will seem unfair at times, compared to his treatment of the other houses.

Ernest is very smart and has a love for reading. He likes plants more than the students at Hogwarts. One of the main reasons for that is because they don’t talk back. Well, most of them don’t. Ernest loves learning about new types of flowers, trees and anything to do with Herbology. His plan is to travel the world and discover them when he retires, although he has no plans on doing that for a very long time.

Overall History: Ernest was born 72 long years ago, on the 12th March. He had a happy childhood in Skipton and welcomed a little brother to the family when he was almost six years old. Their parents were very focused on their careers, but Ernest found comfort in his nanny Amelia and his little brother George. The nanny told him wonderful stories about plants and that’s where his love of Herbology stemmed from. His first sign of magic was at the age of seven – Ernest had grown some tomatoes that were the size of pumpkins within three days! His parents were delighted once he was able to ‘prove’ his wizarding heritage.

Once at Hogwarts, Ernest was sorted into Hufflepuff – unlike the majority of his family whom had been in Slytherin, including his brother George. His time at school was enjoyable until George came along and ruined it all. He had a girlfriend before he did, was incredibly popular, passed his end of year exams and appeared to be good at everything. His parents obviously favoured the younger son and this was something Ernest grew to resent. When he graduated from Hogwarts he made the decision to leave home and has never talked to his family since. They had not had a particular argument but Ernest was stubborn and would not let their treatment of him go.

Ernest has had many jobs since his graduation, although he still considers the Outstanding in NEWT Herbology his greatest achievement to date. Some of his past jobs include writing a plant column in a wizarding magazine, working as a healer at St. Mungos and being a Herbologist. Ernest had been working at Hogwarts for the last 10 years and finds the job challenging, something his past work lacked.
