Lysander meandered his way through Hogsmede. It was a great place to go when you wanted time off. Luckily this was a Hogsmede weekend. Of course, Lysander's mother had signed the permission slip this year, his father signed it last year, enabling Lysander to go. He had heard stories of how Harry Potter had not had permission in his third year and always managed to sneak into the village. The thought brought a smile to Lysander's face.
While Harry and Ginny and Hermione and the others weren't really his family, Luna considered them that and so did he. After all, when his mother was in school everyone called her Loony Lovegood. Some still did now, but usually those closest to her, maybe Harry to her in a teasing way. Because of the close bonds that Lysander's mother shared with the Potters, Weasleys, and Longbottoms it practically made them close family to Lysander.
His mother had given him permission to crash at one of their places if they wanted to take him in for a time. Lysander's mother was a bit of a naturalist... well hello. Lysander's head snapped around as he saw a Gryffindor beauty walking around. "Hey Cosette! What's ya doing?" He called to the beautiful girl. Lysander hurried to catch up with her.

Cosette walked around the small village, enjoying the snow covered roofs and the smoke coming from the various chimneys. This was her favorite place to be, walking around with people from her house. She said goodbye to some of the other girls who were walking with her and headed towards The Three Broomsticks. She smiled thinking of the first time she ever went there, it was so full of students and adult, the whole atmosphere was just warm and welcoming it became her favorite place to spend a Saturday.
She heard someone call for her and turned around seeing an oh-too familiar head of dark hair and flirtatious smile, "Well if it isn't Lysander, not chasing skirts today are you?" She always noticed her slight French accent when she was talking to people outside of her family. Her mother was from Paris, her father a visiting wizard from England. Her mother spoke French to her her whole life so she picked up the language quickly.
She smiled at the boy and walked towards him, knowing she would probably spend her afternoon with the Ravenclaw, he was a nice enough guy. She met him during her first year and they stayed friends the whole time. She really couldn't see him as any more than just a friend, but a friend that she would never ever want to lose.

Lysander grinned, "Aren't I always?" He had tried, rather unsuccessfully, to gain Cosette's affections. At least they were friends so he couldn't complain there. "I'm bored. I was just wandering around doing nothing, but I saw you and thought.... well maybe you could be my date and go to the Three Broomsticks with me?" He air quoted date. He knew that Cosette would never take it further than friendship, but that didn't mean Lysander wouldn't stop trying. Of course he was meaning date as in spending time with a friend while in Hogsmede. Considering they were both in different Houses they couldn't always be together. And their Houses would be competing against each other for the House Cup as well as the school's Quidditch Cup.
Lysander grinned at Cosette. He heard the French accent and it made him like her all the more. She was so exotic, but friendly too. After all. He was sure that if he did not treat Cosette nicely then he would have a very angry Headmistress after him. Lysander decided to stick with being nice to the girl. Being from Gryffindor it made it easy. "How was your day?" It had to be fine of course. Lysander was sure he had some classes with Cosette.
She was pretty AND relatively smart. No matter what, Lysander would always want to stay friends with the pretty girl no matter what. And of course, he would never stop trying to gain her affections. She was one of the few girls he actually liked and she definitely knew it. Skirt chasing was what Lysander was known for, but he wasn't stupid and to continue pushing if a girl said no. And of course Cosette had very politely, but firmly said no. He didn't push in a way that would make her angry, but he did flirt a little. Smiling here, winking there, asking to go to the Three Broomsticks with him for a bit. Little things like that.

Cosette knew that if she could see Lysander as anything but a good friend, he would be the perfect guy for her. He was cute, the head boy, captain of his quidditch team, but he just wasn't the one for her. She couldn't help that there just was no spark between them. She playfully sighed when he asked her on the date, "I think I could use a nice butterbeer." She held out her hand to him and smiled, she could use a little bit of nice treatment after classes have been going crazy for her. She was sure that he would find an amazing girlfriend and she hoped that some day she would be able to find someone for herself. Someone who didn't treat her like a veela. She always wanted to become more than her bloodline.
She knew that some people either treated her amazing because of her veela blood, or because her Aunt was the Headmistress. She loved her Aunt Fallon, but she would never let her use her position as the Headmistress to give her any special treatment. "Day has been pretty good so far, just kinda want to spend time with a wonderful friend and drink some delicious drinks." She held her hand out for his, knowing it was innocent enough with Lysander.
Cosette always enjoyed spending time with Lysander because he would flirt with her, but only in kidding tones. He would never pressure her and understands that she doesn't want to be with him. He was better than most of the guys at the school who would be happy to try to force her into a relationship while under the haze of lust. She would never stand it and even started to search for potions that would suppress the effect she had on people. It would be amazing to see who was actually her friend, and who just thought she was a pretty face. She walked into the crowded bar and found them an empty table, "Does this work for you?" She asked pointing it out.

Lysander grinned, "Sure. You sit and I'll go get a couple of Butterbeers... unless you had something else in mind?" He was meaning a drink of course. Despite Cosette being very beautiful, Lysander wasn't the kind to push. She was too much like a sister to him to actually take it farther. He just enjoyed teasing the girl to death. A Butterbeer to Lysander sounded good. The drink was nice and warmed him on a cold day... like today of all days! Wow look at that. He removed his coat and placed it behind his chair before doing the same for Cosette and pushing her chair in slightly.
Lysander was a gentleman to those he cared about. His mother got very angry if he treated another person or creature maliciously. So the boy had quickly learned to be nice or be dead. Ok not really be dead, but he hated how his mother got all serious when he did something wrong. Looking the beautiful girl over he wondered if he would ever have a chance with her. Probably not, but if she ever wanted a good, strong, compassionate boyfriend then he would be there for her. Same would be if she just wanted him to be a friend.
Either way, Lysander was happy to be a part of Cosette's life. She might be French, but she was still a living breath person and Lysander knew how some guys only went after girls for their beauty. Lysander went after Cosette for her compassion and friendship. He grinned at her again before teasingly sticking out his tongue.

She took off her scarf and then her navy blue jacket. She stoof in front of him in a well fitting long sleeved black shirt that better showed off her chest and her fair skin, "Butterbeer is great, thank you." She set her belonging on the bench next to her and sat down waiting for lysander to come back. He was one of the few guys who actually respected her when she said she wasn't interested. She smiled when he pushed her chair in, he was a gentleman and always treated her like a lady. Most guys would have stopped being nice to her the second she turned them down.
She waited at the table, looking around the the other students enjoying their day of freedom. She always liked watching people and learning what she could about them. She saw a table of Gryffindors watching her and whispering to each other. She didn't always like the girls in her house since they got their entertainment from starting rumors about her to messing with her things. She kept away from most of them, figuring it was always better to be alone and ignore them. Though she did love spending time with Lysander, sometimes people accused her of stringing him along. It made her feel terrible when people thought she was using him.
She smiled when he returned with their beverages and stuck out her tongue right back at him. She took one of the drinks from him and took a quick sip, allowing the caramel and vanilla flavors coat her mouth. She smiled at her best friend and set the drink down, "So how is quidditch going?" She knew that Lysander had almost everything going for him, head boy, quidditch seeker, and captain, he was perfection. She just felt nothing for him. She almost wondered if there was something wrong with her.
